Pleasant surprise... great service, and a very unique concept of location sharing by multiple businesses. Sub Rosaro serves a different selection of wines every other weekend, and allows another business to offer cold plates to compliment these unique wines. Of course, Sub Rosa is a bakery during the day. The business brought an otherwise rundown old place in a historic part of Richmond, and transformed it into a charming little escape that will certainly contribute to this area's revitalization. We will be back ... with friends!

Sub Rosa sets the standard for bakeries in Richmond. They make incredible baked goods every morning that sell out faster than you can wake up in the morning, so get there early! I can say that they are great, as everyone else does, but what I believe makes Sub Rosa so great is the fact that they grind their own wheat! What?! Who does that?! Sub Rosa does.

Love the pastries, the bread, the unique treats. I also love the space. I’m not lovin’ the surly attitude of indifference from some of the crew working there. I know a bakery starts in the wee hours of the morning, I get that. I’d be cranky too by Noon but they signed up for that, not me. Gotta turn that frown upside down or we won’t be back, not worth it.

The cheese and fig pastry is a butter-laden, manhole cover sized masterpiece. But so are all of their offerings. Don't miss the sour cherry and pistachio pastry. Or the croissants. You will stand on line longer than you want to...you should double check your order before you walk out...you should also know the limit of 8 pastries per order. Then you should ignore all of that and have an amazing pastry brunch nowhere else but here.

A must-stop if passing through Richmond. The bread is delicious and clearly crafted by master bakers (the crumb is delicious). Try the sesame rye and a few of the pastries. The croissants were delicious and must be tried. A James Beard Award finalist, this is worthy of the praise received.
