Lots actual physical items and knowledgeable staff to answer questions. It is very effective in teaching u about the war.
This is a great place to visit, especially if one is a history buff. There are couple of free short films to watch; one is about Tredgar Iron Works and the other film is about Richmond during the Civil War. Also, there are a lot of neat exhibits from weaponry to clothes.
I would have given this place a 4 stars, but when the tour guide let us participate in the canon firing demonstration it made it pretty sweet. The museum itself is kind of small and there aren't tons of exhibits, but I wasn't expecting much so it was fine.
Unfortunately we did miss the guided tour.
I'm not a museum person, but I did enjoy the unguided tour. We ware greeted by a park ranger, who gave us the layout of the museum. My wife and I enjoyed the experience. Definitely recommend checking some local history!
Excellent staff in a very beautiful area! Plan to stay here 2-3 areas as you walk around the area and bridges on the James River!
