This POS bike chain had me builld about 30 bikes and then when the sales floor was full they cut my pay and i quit. TERRIBLE. All they car about is fake ass rip off warrantees. The sales floor knew literally nothing about bikes.
Used/returned bikes being sold as new! Chain bike shop in a parking lot that is difficult to access. The staff was not overly friendly. Once he realized I was interested in a 300-600 bike, interest in selling me the bike I wanted seemed to wane. They clearly had a Fuji incentive and I was repeatedly offered Fuji's despite expressing my disinterest in the brand. Lots of energy bars for sale. The salesman acted like comfort bikes were sort of a joke. He did not offer solutions when the color bike I wanted was not in stock. finally found a bike I might be interested in and then noticed some of the components were Rusty and the the tires were caked in mud. It was clear the bike had been out in the weather either they had left it out in the weather or the bike had been sold and returned. The salesman acknowledged the bike had been ridden the bit but did not say whether it had ever been returned and tried to pass it off as new. He did not offer to replace the rusty screws and his evasiveness with the question of whether the bike has been used made me feel distrustful of this shop. Better than Walmart I guess?
Based on my experience and the other reviews, your satisfaction seems to depend on where you land among a staff of mixed competence and engagement.
Went there to pick up some odd size chainring bolts for a bashgaurd. The gentleman in the back was extremely helpful and even broke out some possible old parts that could fit. He basically gave them to me for free they were so cheap. Definitely a group of bike hobbyist, which makes the experience much more enjoyable. Thanks!!
I bought a mountain bike a year ago and it's been fine and I've had other positive experiences as well. I had a rough time this week with the tune up shop (chain came off two days after their premium tune up and they bafflingly tried to disavow any responsibility), but it was eventually resolved by the manager - minus some irritation and inconvenience.
I bought my first bike in several years at Performance recently. Emilia was great. We were in the store for over an hour and she was available on and off for that entire time to answer questions and offer advice. My mom ended up purchasing a bike as well, totally unplanned and partially due to the high level of customer service we experienced. We both also needed trunk racks and a few other accessories, so it was very helpful to have such an attentive staff member on hand. I ended up purchasing a bike that had to be shipped from another Performance store. When I returned, Rex was incredibly helpful and answered my remaining questions. Performance was recommended to me by several cyclist friends. I'll definitely pass on the recommendation to anyone looking to purchase a bike in RVA.
