The parking itself for Belle isle is a bit clunky, and often tight on weekends, but Belle isle itself is truly wonderful. To walk to it, you cross a large walk bridge over the James River, and then you can get to the trails on the island.
The trail around the island by the James River is outstanding! The parking area, however, is totally inadequate.
Not many spaces to park, but more would take away from the scenery, so it's better that way.
The parking spaces are drawn quite big so if you have a small car you can fit with 2 other small cars in covering 2 spaces. I'm not sure if this is legal but it helps due to how crowded it gets on the weekends.
I really enjoy going on walks with the family and sitting to watch the rapids. It's oddly calming how something so fast and rough can be calm and peaceful.
The island itself is great, lots to do. Walking, sitting, biking / boarding, bouldering / climbing, and you can even get in the water at times when the river allows.
Sometimes parking can be a bit of a hassle here. I wish there were more spots to go around but i do enjoy that its so close to Belle Isle.
